There are no groundbreaking changes here, as expected, since Plasma 5.21 released about 3 months ago, and it mostly focuses on improving support for Wayland, but there are some nice quality of life imporvements in here as well. The first one is the adaptive transparency for panels and their widgets. This feature will let you have panel transparency when you just have open windows floating around, and have them turn opaque when you have a maximised window. The new Menu introduced in Plasma 5.21 took ages for it to move to another application category when you hovered over it. This annoying delay is now gone, and it makes the menu a lot more responsive and a lot nicer to use. In the digitalclock, you can now choose to display the date next to the time at all times, instead of having it displayed under it if the panel was big enough. The audio applet lets you select a profile for each of your audio peripherals, right from the applet, instead of having to dig into the settings. Users of Klipper, the clipboard manager, will now be able to press Meta+V to get the clipboard history displayed at the current mouse cursor's location. You can now change the text size in sticky note widgets. In the task manager, when you hover over an app's icon, you get a thumbnail of that app and the highlight will only happen when you hover over the thumbnail itself. This behaviour is also the default. In the notifications area, notifications about files will now show which app will be used when you click the "open" button. When downloads initiated from a webbrowser are waiting for an action from you to resume or really start the download, the notification will also let you know. Finally, when you're broadcasting or sharing your screen, do not disturb mode will automatically enable itself. Krunner can now display multiple lines of text for search results. Krunner also won't display duplicate results from different runners. In terms of applications, Plasma 5.21 introduced a new System monitor, well, it's now the default and replaces KSysguard. In the system settings, the first page you'll see is a "quick settings" page, that shows some of the most frequently accessed settings, namely switching from a light theme to a dark theme, changing the animation speed, the wallpaper, or the single click/dual click behavior in the file manager. Plasma introduced offline updates in the previous release, and in Plasma 5.22, you can now enable or disable that behavior, so everyone can have their cake and eat it too. At least on distros that support that feature. Just a quick note: on KDE neon, you can still update manually in place, without a reboot, if you're using the command line, only updating through discover triggered that "reboot to update" behavior. ## Wayland First, the Plasma Activities are now supported on Wayland. THis is a feature I haven't really used yet on my KDE Desktop. Think of them as groups of virtual desktops: each activity has their own virtual desktops, widgets, and wallpapers. Exclusively on Wayland, when you're using the global menu applet, you'll see a "search" item on the right side of the menu, that lets you search through all items in the app's menu. This is something you could do in the Unity desktop, or on MacOS, and it's a really fantastic feature, taht I wish would come to X.org as well. Kwin also has received a huge update to better support the wayland protocol. First, performance is improved on non-Nvidia GPUs for fullscreen windows. Plasma also supports variable refresh rates and freesync screens when using wayland, and you can also hot plug GPUs, and Kwin will adapt automatically. Vertical and horizontal maximization, when you drag a window to the edges of the screen should now work correctly as well, and you're now able to use the "Present Windows" effect more reliably, to get an exposé-like view. The team behind the project says that if you're looking for a familiar working environment, Plasma Desktop gives you all the tools you need for a modern desktop computing experience so you can be productive right from the start. In fact, through the use of visual effects and scalable graphics, the desktop experience is not only smooth but also pleasing to the eye. Now, the KDE Project has released KDE Plasma 5.22 as the next big series in its acclaimed modern and powerful desktop environment for Linux-based operating systems. KDE Plasma 5.22 released – Check out what's new Highlights of the KDE Plasma 5.22 release include the implementation of the new Plasma System Monitor application introduced in the KDE Plasma 5.21 release as the default system monitoring application and a replacement for the KDE System Guard application, also known as KSysGuard. Another major change in this release is the new adaptive dashboard transparency feature that promises to help you make the dashboard and dashboard widgets more transparent. Also, KDE Plasma 5.22 has great general Wayland support, especially for activities and support for searching menu items from the Global Menu applet. To top it off, the system settings have been updated to allow you to disable offline updates on Linux distributions that enable them by default, like KDE neon, or to allow you to enable them on distributions that don't. Also in the system settings, there are major improvements in keyboard accessibility and navigability. Improvements have also been introduced to the Task Manager's “Highlight Windows” feature, which can now only highlight windows by hovering over their thumbnails in the tooltip by default. Furthermore, KDE Plasma 5.22 makes it possible to change the text size in sticky note widgets. But wait, there's more, as system tray applets are now more consistent in look and feel, the Digital Clock applet pop-up has been reworked for usability and accessibility, and it's now possible to force it to display the date anyway line that time on tall panels. The audio volume applet in the system tray now allows you to directly select the device profile for your audio devices from the applet, you can now open the clipboard history at any time with the keyboard shortcut Meta + V, and KRunner now shows multiline text for search results and no longer returns duplicate results from different runners. Of course, there are numerous performance improvements, especially for the KWin window and compositing manager to work better in Wayland, thanks to support for direct scanning for full-screen windows on non-NVIDIA GPUs, support for variable refresh rates, support for hot -plugging GPUs, support for setting overscan values, support for vertical and horizontal maximization and better support for multi-screen configurations. How to install or update Plasma 5.22 is now official, but as usual this doesn't mean we can easily install it on our Linux distribution. The first system to have it available will be KDE neon, where it will probably arrive in the next few hours. #Kde #desktopenvironment #plasmadesktop #gnu #linux Todays Video - KDE Plasma 5.22 Officially Released, This Is What’s New!

The KDE Plasma environment tends to release multiple versions next to each other to fix issues that were not initially detected. So, within this perspective, the KDE project announces the new Plasma version 5.22.4 which was released with more fixes than expected after the arrival of KDE Plasma v5.22.3 . This fourth maintenance update in the series is here to continue fixing the few bugs that have been introduced in this series. The team first adds changes and then focuses on making everything more consistent. Plasma 5.22.4 released with more fixes than expected. Discover some of the new features What you have below is not an official list , but some of the changes Nate Graham has been anticipating over the weekends. Opening the Digital Clock applet configuration dialog no longer closes the applet pop-up window if it was opened deliberately. When using systemd-homed, entering an incorrect password once at the login screen no longer causes all subsequent unlock attempts to fail. The Bluetooth widget now works correctly when placed directly on the dashboard instead of in the system tray. System Monitor is now much faster to start. The grid elements in the system tray's expanded popup are now perfectly aligned with the pixels so they are not blurry. Using QTimer in the KWin script now works again. In the context menu of desktop items, pressing the Shift key to toggle between “Move to Trash” and “Delete” now works when a submenu is opened. Global shortcuts for applications whose desktop files have uppercase characters in their names now work correctly and their entries on the Shortcuts page of System Preferences now always display the correct icons. Plasma notifications with embedded links now use the Plasma theme's link color instead of the app's color scheme, fixing bugs where they differed, such as when applying the Breeze Twilight theme. The category lists on the Unsplash Picture of the Day wallpaper settings page are now sorted alphabetically instead of semi-randomly. Site bookmarks displayed in KRunner that come from a browser using the Plasma browser integration are now nice and crisp when using a high DPI scaling factor. Panels that use the Adaptive Transparency feature now enter transparent mode when using the Show Desktop effect. In Plasma Wayland, KWin sometimes does not crash when disconnecting or reconnecting certain external monitors. The ksystemstats daemon (which provides sensor data to System Monitor and various sensor widgets) no longer crashes on startup for some people with certain hardware. The Information Center now displays correct information about non-x86 CPUs. Your code is now available, coming soon on some operating systems The release of Plasma 5.22.4 is now official , but it will take a while to show up as an update on some operating systems. KDE neon should debut the environment very soon and a little later it will come to Kubuntu + Backports PPA. Distributions whose development model is Rolling Release will receive it in the next few hours. #KDE #DesktopEnvironment #Plasmadesktop #Kdeplasma #Kdeplasma522 Todays Video - KDE Plasma 5.22.4, Bugfix Release for July - KDE Community, KDE Plasma 5.22.4 Further Improves Plasma Wayland, Makes System Monitor Faster to Launch!

KDE's big Plasma 5.22 desktop release is now available with maturing its Wayland support continuing to be one of the big ongoing focuses for the project. KDE Plasma 5.22 brings much better Wayland support "hugely improved" is how the 5.22 beta release phrased it. There is now support for variable rate refresh (VRR) / Adaptive-Sync on Wayland, vertical/horizontal maximization now working with KWin Wayland, global menu applet support under Wayland, support for activities, and a lot of other general improvements and fixes so the overall Wayland support is much more polished and nearly at par to the X.Org Server support. The performance for gaming with KDE Plasma on Wayland should also be better with now having direct scan-out support for full-screen windows. Rounding out the graphics fun with this release is also GPU hot-plugging support on Wayland for KWin, such as if using an external GPU or USB display adapter. KDE Plasma 5.22 also delivers on adaptive panel transparency for the panel and wigets, desktop notification improvements, Plasma System Monitor has replaced KSysGuard as the default system monitoring application, and a variety of other improvements. :: More :: KDE Plasma 5.22 has been released, following a successful bout of beta testing last month. This uplift of the free, open source desktop environment improves ‘stability and usability across the board’, according to KDE devs. And that’s not an understatement. Refactored code and copious bug fixes converge to offer better performance, better responsiveness, and an overall better experience. Add in generous helpings of user interface tweaks (like the flashy adaptive panel transparency) and a reel of excellent end-user refinements (like the new System Settings speed dial page showing the most commonly-accessed settings) and Plasma 5.22 really shines bright. As we spotlighted the main improvements in our beta post I won’t run through everything again. Instead, here’s an overview of KDE Plasma 5.22 new features: Adaptive panel transparency System Settings speed dial page Option to disable offline updates Re-designed Digital Clock and Calendar applets Select audio device profiles from volume widget See clipboard contents using Super + V KRunner shows more text for certain results Plasma System Monitor replaces KSysguard Major Wayland enhancements To promote the release KDE devs have put together a showcase mini-site to call out key improvements and detail many of the changes (and serve up some peculiarly angled screenshots), while the full KDE Plasma 5.22 changelog details everything, should you want tons more info. KDE Plasma 5.22 is now available in KDE Neon. Rolling release distros (Arch, Manjaro, et al) will begin to package the Plasma 5.22 release for their users shortly. Kubuntu user? You can look forward to trying KDE Plasma 5.22 (or a later revision) in Kubuntu 21.10 in October, or use the Kubuntu backports PPA to upgrade to Plasma 5.22 on Kubuntu 21.04. #kde #kdeplasma #kubuntu #hirsutehippo #linuxdistro Todays Video - KDE Plasma 5.22.2 Released with Better Flatpak and Wayland Support!

KDE Plasma 5.22 Release Date Here’s a planned timeline for KDE Plasma 5.22 release. The dates are incorrect in the official KDE release schedule wiki. However, I have calculated tentative dates based on the planned iterations. These may change as we move closer to the release. Feature Freeze: April 29, 2021 Beta: May 13, 2021. Final release: June 3, 2021 KDE Saw More Wayland Fixes This Week, Other Changes As we get ready for spring, KDE developers continue polishing up their Wayland support for the Plasma 5.22 cycle. It's been another busy week in KDE land especially on the Wayland/XWayland front while other areas of the free desktop stack have also been enjoying improvements. Some of the noteworthy KDE improvements this past week include: - KDE Connect now supports replying to text messages from within the Plasma notification itself. - The audio volume applet with the applications tab will now show what audio output device a given application is outputting to when hovering over the application name. - KDE Partition Manager now reports the SMART status for all disks. - Okular now behaves correctly for multi-monitor systems with different scaling factors. - Pasting saved Klipper text into GTK applications under a KDE Plasma session now works. - XWayland now responds immediately to fractional scaling factor changes rather than the current behavior of first needing a system restart. KDE Plasma 5.22 Will Better Warn You If Your Disk Might Be Failing One year into the pandemic the KDE developers remain as busy as ever advancing their free software desktop solution. It was another busy week improving KDE by all the developers involved both with fixes to KDE Plasma 5.21 and related applications as well as looking ahead with feature work to Plasma 5.22 and the next round of app releases. KDE developer Nate Graham has once again put out his nicely summarized overview of KDE changes that landed for the week. In going through those changes, some of this week's KDE highlights include: - Notifications to the user when disks are detected that are not a full SMART failure but could lead to data loss soon. This Plasma 5.22 change stems from a user noticing GNOME Disks reporting disk damage but KDE did not. Basically, KDE will now report SMART failure codes to the user even if it doesn't result in a bad SMART status. - The Elisa music player has a mobile interface to support Plasma Mobile and Android. Elisa also picked up support for playing AAC files. - Improvements to the Plasma System Monitor application replacing KSysGuard in Plasma 5.22. Similarly this week brought fix so Plasma System Monitor hopefully won't crash on Wayland. - The "Force Font DPI" setting in Plasma should now work again on Wayland. - Kate supports jumping back to the previous cursor position. Closing Notes So, overall these are initial changes and enhancements that are expected at the moment. KDE Plasma 5.22 would be based on Qt 5.15 and KDE Frameworks 5.82. As always, a whole lot of bug fixes that are currently being added in Plasma 5.21 would be available in the new release. And yes, many merge requests are still pending. I am not sure whether we get to see another new wallpaper or any other major design changes such as the new Kickoff menu which was introduced in 5.21. Also, a bunch of Wayland fixes and improvements is expected to land as well. So, Stay tuned. #kde #kdeplasma #kdeplasmadesktopenvironment #kdeplasmanewfeatues #plasmadesktop Todays Video - Upcoming new features of KDE Plasma 5.22 and tentative release plans. !

KDE neon will provide users with more up-to-date packages of Qt and cutting-edge KDE software. We use Ubuntu as a base for KDE neon because the KDE neon team feels it offers the best technology as a stable release and the best third party support. The KDE neon team is familiar with Ubuntu having worked with it for over a decade. We also feel that Ubuntu users will miss out if they do not have up to date KDE software. It is otherwise unrelated to the Ubuntu project or Canonical. Latest Version: KDE Plasma 5.22 Stable KDE Neon: Based on Ubuntu LTS 20.04

KDE Plasma 5.22 Beta – What’s New This release is based on Qt 5.15 and KDE Frameworks 5.82. Adaptive transparency in desktop panels is introduced. This design change is introduced to make the Panel’s transparency and any maximize window’s behaviors consistently. For example, if your panel is say 50% transparent and you have an application window maximized, then the bottom desktop panel looks odd with 50% transparency. It would have been better if the panel adapts its transparency based on panel settings to match the window. Here’s a video that explains this feature. When you are copying any file or any actions on the file, the completion popup now shows which application is available to open the file. For example, “Open with Ark” for a zip file. If no file type association is found, the button changes to “Open With” and no buttons at all when the file in question is deleted or not available in the course of the operation. A warning popup is introduced to prevent accidental deletion of notes in the KNote app. Today, there is no warning and it just deletes it. The vault now shows an option to open in file manager action for the vault folders and files. The “Show KRunner” is removed from the desktop context menu (right-click). As per the developers, this is implemented mainly to de-clutter the desktop context menu. And also, the new Kickoff menu is more functional thus eliminating a separate option to lauch KRunner. And expert users already know the F2 shortcut which launches KRunner. The Audio applet now shows full speaker and mic names when you mouseover. In Discover, the applications now show the type of the package – for example, Flatpak, Snap, etc. It even includes a small icon for quick identification. This is a handy enhancement. It is now possible to switch between different audio profiles of your microphone, sound device from the new profiles card. For example, if your speaker supports stereo, Dolby 5.1, Dolby 7.1 – you can switch between them via the new card menu. KDE now can play a sound when your plugged-in devices ready to be removed safely. A while back the offline updates landed on the KDE Neon unstable edition. The offline update is now available in this release with a config option to enable/disable it. Download KDE Plasma 5.22 Beta is now available as KDE Neon testing edition. You can directly download the .iso using the following link. Make sure you click on the testing edition. Other changes: Kickoff performance improvements Task Manager ‘Highlight Windows’ feature enabled by default Global shortcuts involving non-Latin symbols of non-US keyboards now work properly Change the text size in sticky note widgets File change notifications now indicate which app will ‘Open…’ Download notifications tell you when they’ve been blocked Do Not Disturb activated when screen-sharing or screen-casting Get Plasma 5.22 Beta Today’s beta release is available for developers and bug hunters. It can be downloaded as source code, pre-built packages for select distros, or using a live USB or docker image. But KDE devs caution that beta testers “…must be prepared to encounter [and report] bugs that may interfere with your day-to-day use of your computer.“ #news #beta #kde #kdeplasma #plasma Todays Video - KDE Plasma 5.22 Beta Arrives with ‘Hugely Improved’ Wayland Support!

According to developer Nate Graham, KDE Plasma 5.23 will have an improved Breeze theme, a result of work by developer Jan Blackquill. KDE Plasma 5.22 has been released and is making its way into the software repositories of several popular Linux distributions, but work has already begun on the next major release, KDE Plasma 5.23. As with all previous versions of the beautiful and modern KDE Plasma desktop environment, the next release of KDE Plasma 5.23 will have many new features and improvements, and the first big change was revealed by renowned KDE developer Nate Graham on his personal blog. KDE Plasma 5.23 will have an improved Breeze theme KDE Plasma 5.23 promises to offer users a more beautiful Plasma desktop experience, including an updated Breeze theme with a nice new style for buttons, radio buttons, checkboxes, menu items, sliders, etc. Not only will this provide a prettier Plasma experience, but also more error-free, as the new Breeze theme style addresses some old style issues like Breeze's sliders becoming invisible when selecting the parent widget or the default color for a more visually obvious dialog button. According to developer Nate Graham: "There's a lot of time left to adjust the final look as needed, but overall I think it's pretty good and I hope you're as excited about it as I am." The new Breeze theme style was implemented by developer Jan Blackquill, following mockups created by Manuel Jesus de la Fuente and other KDE VDG members. This work will be available as part of the next release of KDE Plasma 5.23 on October 12, 2021 Obviously, KDE Plasma 5.23 will bring many other new features and improvements, like a much faster Window Rules tab in the System Settings when using a lot of window rules. So, keep an eye on the Blog for more awesome KDE Plasma news in the future. #kdeplasma #kde #plasmadesktop #desktopenvironment #linux Todays Video - KDE Plasma 5.23 Promises Beautiful New Breeze Theme Style!

Thanks for watching! And KDE Plasma 5.22.3 has officially been released with improvements in Flatpak app support and more. Check out the news and see how to install on Linux. The KDE Plasma Desktop is an amazing environment that offers a beautiful appearance of the desktop that Total takes advantage of modern computing technology. Now, the KDE Project has released KDE Plasma 5.22.3 as the third point release for the latest series of KDE Plasma 5.22 desktop environments to address more bugs, regressions and improve existing features. KDE Plasma 5.22.3 released – Check out what's new As stated before, KDE Plasma 5.22.3 is the third of five updates to the KDE Plasma 5.22 series, and comes just two weeks after the one-time KDE Plasma 5.22.2 release to further improve support for Flatpak sandbox applications , resolving a crash in the pop-up that asks you to approve the background activity, which occurred when switching to another Flatpak app. KDE Plasma 5.22.3 also continues to improve the new Plasma System Monitor application, improving the process kll functionality in Tree View to properly terminate the correct process, as well as Plasma Wayland session to make window rules related to Activities work correctly. Also improved in this maintenance update was the Plasma X11 session addressing a crash that occurred when the process (ksmserver-logout-greeter) running the Plasma logout screen disappears, the Plasma Audio Volume applet to consume less CPU resources in the background and the Media Player Applet to remove an audio source from the audio source list as soon as the respective audio source stops playing. Also improved Dr Konqi KDE crash manager to repair query builds, plasma disks to no longer notify about instabilities, Task manager to load album art background asynchronously, Information center for improve the refresh button and Plasma Workspace to fix a copy/paste error. In addition, the KDE Plasma 5.22.3 update allows dialogs in GTK applications to move correctly on a touchscreen, improves support for system tray icons using the xembedsniproxy process that implements context menus and fixes a crash from the Plasma desktop that occurred while using the Meta + V keyboard shortcut to view the clipboard history in a pop-up menu using certain multi-screen arrangements. How to install or update Plasma 5.22.3 is already official, but as usual this doesn't mean we can easily install it on our Linux distribution. The first system to have it available will be KDE neon, where it will probably arrive in the next few hours. Later, they will add other distributions, among which Rolling Releases will come sooner, although that doesn't mean they will soon; it may take a few days or even a few weeks. Then the KDE Plasma 5.22.3 desktop environment will soon arrive in the stable software repositories of your favorite Linux distribution, especially releases like KDE neon, Arch Linux, openSUSE Tumbleweed and Solus. It is a recommended update for all KDE Plasma 5.22 users. In This Video We Are Discussing About A few hours ago, the developer team behind this Arch Linux-based distro has released a new stable version and a new ISO. But they are not the same? Not always. Sometimes they have found a problem to fix in the images, they have released stable updates for existing installations and not new ISOs. Manjaro 21.1.2 arrived eight days after the previous version and at the same time as Manjaro 2021-09-04, as it has to be. It has not come with great news, although, as usual, KDE users are the main beneficiaries, since among the updated packages are those of KDE Gear 21.08.1 and Plasma 5.22.5, but not those of Frameworks 5.86 since it has been released hours before. Highlights of Manjaro 21.1.2 Pahvo This time they only noted that most of the kernels have been updated, the newest stable being Linux 5.14. KDE has received Gear 21.08.1 and Plasma 5.22.5, Maui-Kit has been updated to v2.0.1 and WINE to v6.16. On the other hand, packages have been updated in everything a bit, and Calamares has improved, for example, in that now you can choose the file system for the manual partition or improved support for btrfs. For btrfs installations, the default subvolume layer has been improved so that copies waste less space. On the other hand, swapfiles are now supported in btrfs. Existing users can now update directly from Pamac or via terminal with the command sudo pacman -Syu. The new images have not yet reached the Manjaro portal, but they can be downloaded from the link of the thread about Manjaro 2021-09-04 which you can access from this link. The official editions are available in normal and minimal in Xfce, KDE, and GNOME. :: More :: Manjaro is a Linux distribution that is being developed in Germany, France and Austria. It is based on the Linux distribution Arch Linux and adopts its rolling release model, ie package updates are not installed every few months or years as a large distribution update, but rather continuously. #manjarolinux #manjarokde #kdeplasma #kde #manjarolinuxkde Todays Video - Manjaro 21.1.2 (2021-09-04) came with Linux 5.14, Plasma 5.22.5 and WINE 6.16!
