Almost every developer I’ve met that’s working on an indie game has been a solo developer. But there seems to be a common sentiment from a vocal minority that’s within this community. What's this idea you’re probably wondering, well it’s the belief that “You must make every aspect of your game by yourself”. And if you don’t make everything on your own, your game is somehow not worthy. So today I’m going to be discussing this topic and revealing indie development’s biggest lie. In this Devlog we will look at what the hardest thing about game development is, and what we can do to overcome it. I have been writing an FPS game in unity for the past two months. In this time I have learnt so much that I don't think one video could possible cover it all. But as an overview - I have looked at character control, artificial intelligence, animations, 3d modelling and texturing and much more. Through these past two months I have faced many challenges, and I have been forced to continue learning an researching, which is honestly one of the best things about game development. One could say that any of the above items are the hardest thing about game development, however, I would say that none of these things are too difficult for somebody to learn. Especially not with all of the resources that are available out there right now. So - use your time carefully, as managing your time, and using it effectively, is definitely the hardest thing about game development. Is game development hard? No - no it's not. GAME 367-002 FINAL = This is my final project for one of my game design courses! Some details about it: - It is a Top-Down, Tactical RPG where you play as little plastic toy soldiers :o - I Solo-Devved it, meaning all (but one) of the assets you see/hear in-game were made by me :) (im so tired) - Even though I'm done with the final, I plan to support and continue working on this game. This is a build of the project that I put together for presentation purposes. I plan on adding a bunch more to the game down the line! I also plan to upload an FL video (similar to Mr. Frog) for the Battle Theme sometime soon, so if you like the way it sounds in-game, look forward to that!

Here's a brief look at my first play test outside of the editor, built for Windows. Starting play tests early helps identify issues and bugs that don't show up in the editor. Performance still has a ways to improve, there's a slight hitch when distant foliage loads into view. Also, my essence manager seems to stop spawning essence near the player character.
