Drugs, crime, and homelessness are taking over much of San Francisco – although billions are being spent toward a solution, the city's problems are compounding. A recent report from the University of California San Francisco shows that California accounts for one-third of all homeless people in the U.S. "People are just free to destroy their lives out in the open," said one local. Welcome to San Bernardino - a place where the violent crime rate is nearly 4 times the US average. And a place where the local economy has suffered greatly. Walking around San Bernardino I witnessed the aftermath of the pandemic - homeless people everywhere, drug addicts roaming the streets, and bombed-out storefronts. As I look around, I can't help but feel scared for cities like San Bernardino that will soon face the brunt of the recession. With job losses looming and real estate prices expected to plummet, the future looks bleak. Will the government step up and address the mismanagement, or will these cities fall deeper into despair? Only time will tell. - Reventure App: 🤍reventure.app JOIN as a Reventure CHANNEL MEMBER: 🤍

Saturday marked the first day some new laws went into effect in California. Senate Bill 731 will automatically seal criminal records for those who completed their sentences and do not commit another crime for four years “I think it's going to not just lift people’s spirits, but make them feel better about themselves and give them a lot more confidence and open more doors for them," said Jeff Armstrong, marketing director at Northern California Construction Training. "So it's a big win too, a big win for everybody." The law creates exceptions for sex crimes and violent felonies, and all records will still be shared with law enforcement and school districts. I knew we were in trouble when the back windshield of our car exploded; glass shards flew into the back of my head and my lap; my first thought was that we had been shot. My cameraman and I had been filming homelessness on the streets of San Francisco for a Telegraph documentary when we came under attack. San Francisco is perhaps America’s most liberal city; it has been at the vanguard of radical, progressive politics for decades. Now the city is at the forefront in the push for “reparations”, cash payments for its black citizens to right the historic wrong of slavery, its proponents pushing for $5 million per person. With the city facing an unprecedented rise in homelessness, drug overdoses and crime, in a new documentary for The Telegraph, I wanted to find out why local officials were so keen on handing over millions of dollars they can barely afford, in a state that never even had slavery, and whether America’s obsession with race will heal the wounds of time, or push an already divided population to the brink.
