Based on a free demo: 🤍 I added gameplay elements to make the player able to turn lights on/off and pickup books: - Add a raycast for player - Add interaction for objects the ray touches - For light switch, it turns lights on/off via Blueprint scripting - For books, it create a physics handle which allow dragging other physical entities (objects with physics simulation enabled)

Specifically, we will look at the basic elements for layout, and buttons that fire events. It will be demonstrated with the creation of a simple button that fires a script for quitting the game. The example is very basic, but it also shows the building blocks for much more complex menu items and scripts that can be run from there. These lecture is part of a larger course that walks through this entire project from beginning to end, focusing on all the techniques necessary to make high-end real time projects, especially for arch viz professionals. The project seen here can be downloaded. It was originally created in 3ds Max & V-Ray, and was translated into a real time project using Unreal Engine and Datasmith. This is done using level sequencer and a master sequence. I do have to admit that some post work was done in After Effects, but very minimal. Everything is done with the UE4 cine camera and the easy animation tools that accompany the level sequencer. Mostly simple transforms, DOF changes, focus changes, etc. This course will cover the workflow form 3ds Max / V-Ray to UE4 via Datasmith. We will then work on generating realistic renderings and cinematic animations from there, after we have fine tuned the lighting, materials, light bake, etc. From there, we will optimize for desktop navigation from a FPS point of view, and then from there on to VR navigation with a headset. Finally, we will experiment with adding interaction using blueprints that are specific to arch viz.

The entire theory and workflow is somewhat foreign. This video attempts to explain the workflow for UE4, for those of us who come from a different background and are not used to these kinds of settings. The three major categories covered are these: - Different types of lights / shadows, and when to use each - Optimizing your light map density for good shadow results - Light bake / lightmass settings for a good global illumination calculation in your light bake You will find that if the different tools are used effectively, you can get very nice global illumination (GI) results with your light bake in UE4. You can also get nice results with dynamic shadows that can calculate accurately in real time while you are playing your game, or exploring your arch viz space. I am working on developing a universal template that can be used for VR as it applies specifically to arch viz. You will see that I am integrating in tools like a measuring tool, a red line tool, a snapshot tool and a laser pointer tool. These are all tools that architects tend to want and need when exploring a project in VR. VR has changed a lot of things in design already. One major point is that architects want to use VR a lot more for design development, rather than just visualization. That's where these tools can really come in handy. VR gives us an opportunity to go above and beyond from static renderings using 3ds Max and Vray. *This template shows use with htc vive, but should be adaptable to oculus rift as well. Software used: Unreal Engine 4.18
