Chiang Mai is located in the northwest of Thailand. It’s one of the largest and most popular cities to visit in the country for good reasons. We highlight the best things to do in & around Chiang Mai: 10. Eat the traditional dish “Khao Soi” This creamy yellow curry noodle soup comes with a choice of chicken or beef, and you can find it in nearly any restaurant in the Chiang Mai. 9. Tour the Buddhist Temples of the old town There are over 300 Buddhist temples in Chiang Mai and many of them are located inside the historic old town, including Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chiang Man, Wat Phan Tao, and Wat Chedi Luang. 8. Visit an elephant sanctuary We visited Elephant Nature Park near Chiang Mai, a sanctuary that is committed to education and rehabilitation of elephants that have been abused by the tourism industry. We observed the roaming elephants for a few hours and helped with the feeding. ☑️ Elephant Nature Park: 🤍 7. Join a cooking class We joined a half-day cooking class, during which we prepared 3 different dishes; a Thai soup, a curry, and Pad Thai. For each dish, there were different options to choose from for your proteins and flavors. ☑️ Chiang Mai cooking class we joined: 🤍 6. Cruise down the Mae Ping River The Mae Ping River is the main river running through Chiang Mai and offers a quick escape from the city. You can rent a kayak and cruise down yourself or join a 2 hour boat tour that takes you past beautiful scenery around Chiang Mai. ☑️ Mae Ping River Cruise: 🤍 5. Day tour to Doi Inthanon National Park Home to Thailand’s highest mountain, Doi Inthanon National Park is about a 1.5 hour drive from the city. The park is filled with beautiful waterfalls, hiking trails, viewpoints, and twin pagodas near the summit. ☑️ Doi Inthanon Day Tour from Chiang Mai: 🤍 4. Shop at the local Talat Warorot This historic market opened in the early 20th century and is a great place to buy clothes, souvenirs, local food and spices. Open daily from 6am to 7pm. 3. Visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep The sacred Doi Suthep temple is about 15 km or 9 miles outside of Chiang Mai. The temple also offers beautiful views of the city and the surrounding area. 2. Drive the Samoeng loop This 100km or 62 miles route is a pretty easy ride with spectacular views winding through the Mae Sa Valley and the Samoeng Forest. We recommend making a few stops along the way: the Mae Sa waterfalls, botanical gardens, and the Samoeng viewpoint. 1. Chiang Mai Sunday Night Market The largest market in Chiang Mai is the Sunday Night Market. Starting from the Tha Pae Gate, the market runs along the entire length of the Ratchadamnoen Road from 5pm until around 10.30pm. We've been to Thailand a few times before, but it's our first time visiting Chiang Mai. Located in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is a laid-back modern city that still has a lot of historical and cultural sites plus tons of delicious food. 🍜 Our lunch spot doesn't have an English name but you can find it here: ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเสวย โจ๊กโตเกียว 🤍 There are 2 stalls right next to each other, the one in this video is the end/further stall but both spots are great. We have also filmed rhe stall right next to this one in our Chiang Rai video. 🛌 Our Chiang Mai accommodation is located in Astra Condo 🤍 You can find listings on Airbnb as there are multiple apartments and it's a popular stay for both foreigners and locals alike although note that Airbnbs are a legal grey area in Thailand. Catching a Grab or tuk tuk from this accommodation is very easy tho and there are plenty of great places to eat nearby which are in walking distance including a night bazaar. 🛕 Temples visited Wat Phan Tao & Wat Chedi Luang are very close to one another inside Chiang Mai Old City. Là vùng đất linh thiêng với hàng trăm ngôi chùa cổ và những công trình in dấu thời gian. Ngày nay Chiang Mai còn được biết đến là địa điểm du lịch hấp dẫn bật nhất Thái Lan nói riêng và châu Á nói chung. Tuần này, mọi người hãy cùng Khoai khám phá thêm về vùng đất đặc biệt này nghen. - Bắt đầu ngày mới bằng món khao soi. Đây là 1 món ăn truyền thống và rất đặc trưng của miền bắc Thái Lan. Khoai rất ấn tượng với màu vàng đặc trưng của khao soi, đó là sự hoà quyện giữa sợi mì trứng, mì trứng chiên giòn và nước sốt với màu vàng cà ri đặc trưng. Khao soi thường được nấu với thịt gà, đôi khi là thịt bò hoặc thịt heo. Món này khá cay, béo và nồng gia vị nên sẽ ăn kèm dưa cải chua để cân bằng hơn. Một tô khao soi ở đây có giá là 50 baht (~36.000 đồng). - Sau đó Khoai ghé 1 quán ăn rất thú vị của 2 cô chú lớn tuổi. Không gian quán nhỏ nhỏ, kiểu xưa cũ, cô chú bán món bún huyết và đá bào truyền thống. Món bún huyết trong tiếng Thái gọi là Khanom chin nam ngao. Nước súp bún huyết gồm thịt heo, huyết nấu chung với nước sốt cà chua và nhuỵ hoa gạo. Nhìn nồi súp đỏ au những tưởng sẽ rất cay, nhưng không hề, đó chỉ là màu sắc do cà chua kết hợp với nhuỵ hoa gạo thôi. Ăn kèm còn có 1 loại rau rất đặc biệt, đó là rau sống rắn dây. Ở miền Tây mình cũng có loại rau này, nhưng rất ít người biết đến. Giá cả 1 tô bún huyết chỉ có 50 baht (~36.000 đồng), 1 chén đá bào là 40 baht (~29.000 đồng). - Chùa Wat Chedi Luang là một trong những ngôi chùa cổ và linh thiêng nhất Chiang Mai. Công trình đặc sắc nhất là ngôi chùa cổ được xây dựng từ năm 1391 và toà bảo tháp 84m xây dựng năm 1475, được cho là nơi cất giữ tro cốt của cha của nhà vua Saen Muang Ma. Nhưng một trận động đất năm 1545 đã phá huỷ 1 phần nên hiện tại bảo tháp chỉ còn cao khoảng 60m. Giá vé dành cho khách du lịch là 40 baht (~ 29.000 đồng). Cách đó không xa là một ngôi chùa cổ khác, đó là chùa Wat Phantao. Chùa được xây dựng từ cuối thế kỉ 14, nổi tiếng vì được xây dựng hoàn toàn bằng gỗ teak đen. About 5 kilometers south of the Old City of Chiang Mai lies the ruins of the real old city , the first capital city of the Lanna Kingdom. The city was only used for five years due to flooding and the capital was moved to what we now know as the Old City. I take a carriage ride throught the ruins which covers quite a bit of land .
