As a social commentator, satirist, and creator of characters, Clemens was a fearless observer of society, who startled many while delighting and informing many more with his uncompromising perspective on social injustice and personal folly. As a recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, Stewart received a copy of an 1884 bronze portrait bust of Mark Twain sculpted by Karl Gerhardt (1853–1940). Doch heute sind die Braunen nur noch Weiße. Denn hier wird man ja doch nur tiefgekühlt. Ja früher gab's noch Hitzefrei. Das Freibad war schon auf im Mai. Ich saß bis in die Nacht vor unserem Haus. Da hatten wir noch Sonnenbrand und Riesenquallen an dem Strand, und Eis und jeder Schutzmann zog die Jacke aus. Wann wird's mal wieder richtig Sommer - ein Sommer wie er früher einmal war? Ja mit Sonnenschein von Juni bis September und nicht so naß und so sibirisch wie im letzten Jahr. Na na na ... la la la ... Und was wir da für Hitzewellen hatten Pulloverfabrikanten gingen ein. Da gab es bis zu 40 Grad im Schatten Wir mußten mit dem Wasser sparsam sein. Die Sonne knallte ins Gesicht da brauchte man die Sauna nicht. Ein Schaf war damals froh wenn man es schor Es war hier wie in Afrika Wer durfte machte FKK Doch heut, heut summen alle Mücken laut im Chor Wann wird's mal wieder richtig Sommer - ein Sommer wie er früher einmal war? "Lass Dich überraschen" - der Titelsong der "Rudi Carrell Show" ist zugleich Motto und Ausdruck dieser Lachgeschichte über Rudolf Wijbrand Kesselaar - genannt Rudi Carrell. Wer nicht weiß, worüber der Entertainer, Zauberkünstler, Bauchredner, Schauspieler, Sänger und Moderator herzhaft lachen konnte, dem hätte er beim verflixten siebten Mal entgegnet: "Das wäre Ihr Preis gewesen!". Ob Rudis große Samstagabendshow, Rateshow, Spielshow oder Quizshow - alle waren sie gespickt mit Gags und Sketchen, dargeboten von Schauspielern, Entertainern, Showmastern die noch heute zur Crème de la Crème des deutschen Unterhaltungsfernsehens zählen. Es darf gelacht werden und das schon beim Lesen der Sketchpartner der ersten Ausgabe von "Am laufenden Band": Heinz Schenk, Theo Lingen, Peter Alexander und nicht zu vergessen sein unermüdlicher Sidekick Heinz Eckner. Auch heute bleibt wieder kein Auge trocken, wenn man die 80er Jahre Revue passieren lässt, in denen Rudi die Ereignisse aus der Tagesschau in seiner Tagesshow parodiert. Erst fünfzehn Jahre später wagt sich Rudi Carrell an eine Wochenschau heran, die er unter dem Titel "7 Tage, 7 Köpfe" mit der ersten Reihe der Unterhaltungskünstler als Kopf bestritt. In der Lachgeschichte Rudi Carrell erlebt man noch einmal seine unerschöpfliche Kreativität, sein Gespür für Situationskomik, sein perfektes Timing, seine Gabe Pointen auf den Punkt zu bringen und vor allem seinen Spaß am Zusammenspiel mit seinen Kollegen. An die lustigsten Momente aus über 50 Jahren Fernsehgeschichte mit Rudi Carrell erinnern sich u.a. Dr. Alfred Biolek, Jochen Busse, Jürgen von der Lippe, Bernd Stelter und Mike Krüger.
